Monthly Rabbit Scram Program

Introduction #

Many customers have a need for preventive or curative services for rabbits given the damage to crops and ornamentals. In the past we have relied on exclusion or trapping to provide solutions for these customers. With planning and attention to detail, the exclusion and traps provide resolution. Even so, they become time consuming and reactive in nature. While these tools will always be available to integrate into a service solution for our customers, Rabbit Scram Professional granular repellant is being added to our material selection. It is expected that Rabbit Scram will be an effective, environmentally responsible year-round solution to suppress rabbit populations.

Rabbit Scram Professional gives rabbits the sense there are dead rabbits on the other side of the barrier application, which inhibits them from crossing and entering the treated area. This granular is a proven, safe, and natural protection for landscaping, ornamentals, vegetables and trees. Rabbit Scram is derived from all-natural animal by-products including blood meal, meat meal, and various repellant/irritant spices—it is also biodegradable and water resistant. Rabbit Scram is a fast-acting formula which uses the species’ natural survival mechanisms—fear and flight—against them. Rabbits smell the product, and they fear predators and potential disease from “deceased” rabbits, ultimately steering away activity. This mode of action forces the rabbits to seek food sources not surrounded by the granular barrier. Rabbit Scram provides a safe, effective, and environmentally responsible means to rid our customers of their rabbit issues. This mode of action doesn’t harm the species, as it simply makes the area of application undesirable for rabbits to exist in.

Generally, Rabbit Scram Professional is fast acting and immediately effective. This said, rabbits do not get used to or develop a tolerance for this product as often occurs with other types of repellants. As we understand, the rabbit pressures do not go away, creating the need for a year-round monthly application.

Rabbit scram is organic and can result in the greening of grass in its application band. It is recommended that nitrogen-based fertilizer not be applied to the treated area.

SERVICE CYCLE #

This protocol is a monthly service cycle. The initial and monthly services are identical.

APPLICATION OF RABBIT SCRAM PROFESSIONAL #

Rabbit burrows

Begin with a detailed inspection of the site to locate all nests and activity including damage to landscaping, ornamentals, vegetables, and trees each time you service.

Look for burrows and nest points which are covered with grass and lined with hair. 3-4 ounces of Rabbit Scram should be applied around the entrance.

On each service month, after completing the inspection and burrow/nest treatment, apply a 24” band of Rabbit Scram around all areas that are to be protected.

THIS PRODUCT DOES NOT REQUIRE WATERING.

On the monthly maintenance services, complete the above protocol.

APPLICATION TECHNIQUE #

After applying product around the nests as described above, apply a 24” band of Rabbit Scram granular around the plant bed/garden areas to be protected using the supplied scoop. The application should be heavy enough to form a visible barrier (one scoop covers 22 square feet / 11 linear feet, 24-inch-wide barrier).

FOLLOW-UP #

With monthly inspections/services it is not required to perform scheduled follow-ups. Rabbit Scram works immediately.

EXTRA SERVICE PROTOCOL #

Occasionally the Customer may find and report new or persistent rabbit activity. We will return as we do for any service request and will re-treat all nests and around areas of new damage. With this treatment, we will increase the width of the band to 36”. Do not reapply Rabbit Scram granular around all beds/gardens, just the ones which have new damage.
